Somehow with all the room tidying, scrapping projects and other stuff I've had going on, my tags have fallen by the wayside for the last few weeks - last time I was over at Tag Tuesday we were on "M" and now they're all the way up to "V" !!!
Tags are such a brilliant way of having a little dabble in different media, experimenting with new techniques and trying new products and best of all you can just use up scraps of stuff you already have - so I'm determined to jump back in feet first and the Tuesday Taggers are such a lovely bunch I know they'll forgive my temporary slackness!
So anyway - what to do for "V" .....? I had a flick through the dictionary and decided to have a go at a Verdigris effect. As I had no idea where to start and couldn't find any helpful tutes on YouTube, I just had to wade in and experiment (see? exactly why tags are so good for my creativity) - and I have to say I was quite chuffed with the results for a first attempt - if you click on the picture you can see more detail
This started off as some scrap cardstock with a couple of chipboard shapes glued on - here's what I did to achieve the verdigris effect -
Swiped over the whole thing with clear pigment ink, covered it with copper embossing powder and set it with my heat gun.
Mixed up some pale blue-green with acrylic paints and sponged it over the top.
Dried it quite fiercely with the heat gun so that it bubbled and blistered in places, then sanded it back.
Repeated the embossing, painting sanding in random areas until it looked about right.
Applied antique gilt cream with my fingers and buffed with a manky cloth.
Grunged it up a bit with Distress Inks in Black Soot, Walnut Stain and Rusty Hinge.
The dangly piece on the bottom is the definition of verdigris torn from an old dictionary, adhered to scrap cardstock and coloured with Distress Inks as above.
I think this would make a fun gift tag if you did it with the person's initial. I'm off to Tag Tuesday to see what all the other clever peeps in the team cae up with - it's always amazing to see all the different ideas :o)
