Follow Your Inner Moonlight

Hi everyone,

The theme over at Tag Tuesday this week is "Silhouettes" - so many possibilities! I thought this would give me the perfect opportunity to try out my beautiful new Memory Box mask which I picked up at Papermaze a few weeks ago and haven't had chance to use yet, as well as

I also used a brilliant quote by Allen Ginsberg. Here's my finished tag, just in the nick of time, as the new theme goes up on Tuesday ...

I've always been fascinated by how a landscape changes in the moonlight and I wanted to capture that on this tag. This is what I used to make it ...

  • Black card
  • Memory Box "Garden Birch Trees" mask
  • Acrylic paint in royal blue
  • Cosmic Shimmer Vintage Mist in turquoise
  • Dylusions Ink Spray in white
  • Neoart water soluble pastel in royal blue
  • Gelatos in light blue and white
Using washi tape to hold the mask in place, I began applying the pastel and gelatos by just scribbling over the top of the stencil ...

... and then rubbing it in to the card with a sponge applicator ...

... starting with the darker colour at the top, then working towards the lighter colour at the bottom and adding white to one edge of each tree ...

Once all the colours were well blended together, I spritzed with the Cosmic Shimmer mist and dabbed up the excess with a cloth. Then I decided it needed a stronger colour at the top, so I went back in with the acrylic  paint ...

... using the same sponge to add the paint and blend it into the other media ...

Then I flicked some of the white Dylusions at it, hoping to create a starry effect ...

But when I lifted my stencil to reveal the finished effect, it was a bit blobby in places ...

However, this turned out to be a happy accident, because I had to come up with something to cover my mistake! I carefully replaced the mask, then added another mask over the top, which I made by punching a circle from a leftover piece of the black card. Then I applied white acrylic through both masks to create a moon behind the trees ...

... and hide the worst of the blobby bits! Here's the finished effect ...

All I had left to do was to cut a tag shape from it, mount it on more of the black card and tie a ribbon through it - simples!

Check out all the other interpretations of this theme over at Tag Tuesday - it's always such an inspiration to see all the different ideas and techniques. And on Tuesday, there'll be a new theme - "Fairy Tales" .... oooooooooohh!! :o)

Thanks for popping in today, see you again soon.

That is absolutely stunning! So atmospheric! You have captured perfectly the change at night. Your blob was a very fortunate accident as the moon just finishes it beautifully. I love it! Thank you for showing the process. I try to learn new things all the time. (I have recently bought some gelatos).
