Hi Everyone,
At last I have the internet back and I can share with you the special project I made for St.Valentine's Day. I know my husband treasures all the handmade cards and keepsakes I make for him and every year I try to come up with something a bit different. This time I wanted to have a go at book folding, as I've seen some beautiful projects on YouTube.
There are lots of patterns available - I used one from Foldilocks which only cost me a couple of quid. It was really straight forward to do, just takes time and careful measuring. Here's how it turned out ...
I really enjoyed decorating the front cover ...
I started with an old hardback book (this was in fact the hardest part of the whole project, choosing which of my beloved books to sacrifice) ...
Other than that, all I needed to get started was pencil, ruler and bone folder, as well as the instructions of course. It's very simple really, just takes patience to measure and fold as accurately as possible ...
It's so cool to see the design emerging as you work ...
When I'd finished folding, I carefully inked the edges to accentuate the shapes ...
... which remind me of mushroom gills close up like this.
The final stage was to decorate the covers. I used Graphic 45 papers with lots of trinkets and treasures from my stash ...
In the background some Papermania doilies are layered with a beautiful piece of rose trim I've been saving for special. Various chipboard pieces have been painted with Distress Crackle Paint, then inked to emphasise the cracks and finished with a touch of gilding paste here and there. The key was cut with a Tim Holtz die and I used different inks and embossing powders to create a rusty effect. The wings on the heart were cut from a scrap of G45 paper - from the Old Curiosity Shop collection I think. I gave the whole thing a coat of matt medium to protect it.
The inside front and back were also covered with G45 papers and I've written a message for my DH inside - but I'm not going to show you that! :o)
Thanks for visiting my blog today, see you again soon.
