WOYWW #335

Hi everyone,

It's Wednesday (they seem to be coming around SO fast!), so it's time to show you a picture of my artyfarty workdesk, then have a little wander over to Julia's Stamping Ground to link up and find out what everyone else has been up to this week. It's open to everyone, so why not join us and show the world What's On Your Workdesk this Wednesday?!

Anyway, here's mine - bit of a shocking mess, just as I left it on Monday evening and haven't been back since ...

This week I have been mostly having a go at a FREE Life Book taster class with Tamara Laporte at Willowing Arts (hugely encouraged by our Zsuzsa's beautiful mixed media work). It's been huge fun and I've learned a lot already so I will certainly be having another go.

Here's a closer look at the end result ...

If you were to look very closely at her neck, you might make out the words "lost and found" scribbled on there - this is partly because it relates to what I was thinking about when I was painting her, and partly because she was lost, painted over and found again so many times during this process (and in fact very nearly ended in the bin!) :o)

This is how she started, with a collage of magazine and book pages and patterned paper scraps ...

This was such a great technique, I can't wait to have another go! Right now though, I am going to sit down with a nice cup of coffee and check out some other creative spaces over at Julia's - see you there!

Thanks for stopping by today, see you again soon :o)

Cool, Annie! She definitely has that mixed-media feel that I love with all the layers and colours. Isn't it funny how they turn out looking so different from the original picture? It never fails to astound me. It's always fun to see who's popping out of the picture in the end. This can be very addictive! Glad you enjoyed it!

Wow, what a great technique.I'll put that on my list of 'might try'. Funny enough now that I'm retired I haven't got a lot of time, lol.
Thanks for visiting earlier,
Have a good week,
Lisca

Hmm, interesting technique! I love how your girl developed from the original illustration. And take heart, when I'm seam ripping for the umpteenth time, my work quite often heads towards the bin. Even now, I can make the stupidest mistakes....sigh.... Ah well, which of us if perfect, eh??! lol

Gee whizz......send me some of your talent, will you? Fabulous result, even if it was a bit of a process.....good on you for sticking it out. Not sure I would have....hope you get to your desk again soon!!!
Hi Annie, you cannot make good art without a little mess Lol! and that's the law (well mine anyway). Loving the journal page, this is a great way to create a figure drawing, may have to have a go myself. Have a great week and a happy woyww, Angela x 23

I love that you show the 'before' page - and how wonderful it turned out, so personal! The eye is also fantastic, you captured it! Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday, Hug from Holland, Marit #21
Hi Annie! Just popping back to answer your question about deli paper in case you missed it on my blog. Deli paper is greaseproof of one side, I think. I like it because it is much stronger than tissue paper, but still translucent. Perfect for gelli printing as well. I bought mine on Ebay - they sell it as deli paper in different formats, usually for wrapping food, but it's also available from some craft sellers. You can get 50 sheets slightly larger than A4 for about 5 or 6 pounds, which then I tend to cut in two and try to use every square inch of it! Not to be confused with parchment paper. If you search for deli paper, you'll find it!
