Tim Holtz April Tag

Hi Everyone,

Long time no see - my last post was almost a month ago, I've just been too busy doing stuff to have time to blog about it! But at least some of that other stuff was fun and creative, so brace yourselves for a little flurry of catch-up posts :o)

No matter how busy life gets this year, I am determined to keep up with the fabulous Tim Holtz Tags of 2016. Click here to check out this wonderful series of tutorials - this year, we're revisiting previous tutorials and combining techniques to create something new.

Here's Tim's tag for April ...

2016TAG

This month, Tim showed us how to combine the faux mosaic technique with paint resist to make this beautiful bird on a woodgrain background. As always, I had some but not all of the supplies he used, so I had to get inventive with what I had available - but that's one of the things I love about this challenge. Here's my version ...

Tim used Distress woodgrain cardstock which I didn't have, but I achieved a nice effect by applying Distress Paint in Antique Linen through a TH stencil, allowing it to dry and then applying Various shades of brown Distress Ink - it was great fun to watch the woodgrain effect coming out!

I didn't have a Distress Paper Mosaic Kit either, but really enjoyed creating a similar effect with Golden Pumice Gel for the grout and Ranger Crackle Accents to give a glossy finish to the paper pieces. A white acrylic paint pen was ideal for colouring the "grout" and I rubbed some over the whole piece as well to bring out the crackles.

My tag isn't really a tag as you can see - this year, I am making pages for a little book instead, so I can keep them all together, along with notes about the techniques and materials used.

Thanks for checking out my blog today, I really appreciate your visit and hope to see you again soon.

Love the mosaic butterfly and what a great idea to do a booklet instead of individual tags! You'll have a cute little book by the end of the year!
