Smile And The World Smiles With You

Hello lovely Bloggy Friends,

For week 37 of Life Book 2016, we had a lesson with the talented Angela Kennedy and I loved it. Firstly, Angela showed us how to create subtle texture for the background, then we sketched out a face and figure, filled in blocks of colour with matt acrylic paint and then added detail and shading with coloured pencils.

Here's how mine turned out - a smiley one for a change!

Angela started the background with white gesso, then brushed in a touch of black and whilst it was still wet she used a fan brush to make circles - I love how they look almost like bubbles in the air! In fact, I liked the effect so much that I decided not to add any more detail to my background ...

Tomorrow morning, we're off to stay in beautiful Buckinghamshire for a few days. We plan to visit lots of nearby National Trust places and beauty spots, but I have packed some arty-farty supplies in case I get the urge and the opportunity! Just a paper pad and my pen case and a couple of water brushes ... :o)

Thanks for popping in today, see you again soon!

Very pretty! You did the hair so well, Annie! It's not easy to make a smiling face, but you nailed it! I couldn't get the coloured pencils to work over acrylics - I think it's because I used a coarse brush for the gesso, and I couldn't get a good coverage with the pencils because of the grooves. I'm glad to see it worked for you. I want to try it again on a smoother surface. Have a good trip! I hope you will fill those pages with some arty farty loveliness and show us when you're back!

She is beautiful Annie. The background works perfectly with her dress and you really got the hair looking great. I've no idea how to even start drawing a face, let alone draw a smiling one, so I'm mightily impressed. Have a lovely break.

Enjoy your R & R....looks like your weather has been nice, so hope it lasts while you're away! And she looks like a little angel...the circles have such a lightness to them & I'm loving the twinkle in her eye. Sweetie pie girl :)
