Trash Dolls Are Coming!!!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a busy summer, but I have still managed to squeeze in some crafty time. One of my favourite projects recently has been turning a pile of assorted empty boxes into a crowd of colourful characters I've decided to call Trash Dolls (because they were made from recycled trash).

Here are the first four finished ...

My son says they're creepy, but I love them, they're my weird children :o)

Here's how they started out ...

... as a selection of empty boxes, my husband's old school algebra textbook and some vintage faces which I found online and printed off. Also, some empty ribbon spools for heads ...

Many happy hours were spent covering every piece in the book paper, whilst binge-watching You Tube, then I got out my gorgeous Golden Fluid Acrylics and painted them all ...

The paints are very vivid, but translucent, so you can still see the text through the beautiful colours ...

Next I added the faces and paired the boxes together to create the little characters ...

I gave them legs made of rolled and painted paper, decorated them with various trinkets and trims from my stash and finished each one off with some words from my old typewriter. Some of them have empty insides, which I plan to fill with all sorts of things ...

SUCH a lot of fun to do and a great way to use up loads of stuff I'd been hoarding. What do you think - creepy or fun (or a bit of both?!) :o)

Thanks for visiting me today, see you again soon!

Deffo NOT creepy! Funky, quirky, eclectic, inspiring and totally cool IMHO! Especially love the Twiggy one - I used to have a figure like hers many moons ago, but alas - alack! no longer. Such a fun project. TFS

I agree with Helen. Not creepy at all and sooooo clover. I would NEVER have thought to create these little works of art with boxes and stuff. You really are amazing. I loved the Twiggy one too but they are all awesome. What do you do with them once they are done?
They are fantastic - I love them! My son also thinks my faces are creepy, but men just don't get it, do they? They're so arty and creative!

These remind me of a book I have, that I think is out in my she-shed. I'll have to go dig it out. I wanna make!
