Counterfeit Kit January 2018 - Fresh Start!!

Hello Everyone,

One of the promises I've made to myself this year is to make time to join in with the Counterfeit Kit Club challenge again - it's such a brilliant idea don't you think?! Gets you looking with fresh eyes at all that stuff you have stashed in your craft room and finding new ways to use it all up :o)

Here's my first Counterfeit Kit for 2018, which I'm calling "Fresh Start"...

The inspiration kit for this month was this one from Cocoa Daisy called "Fair Isle" ...

I'm totally over Christmas, so for my version I played down the red and perked up the pink, also picking up the soft blues and shades of green and throwing in a splash of yellow. I love the little car print in the inspiration kit, so I pulled out one from a recent Quirky Kit which is similar but without the Christmas angle, and pulled all my colours from there.

The Cocoa Daisy kit had some interesting textures which I loved - felt, acrylic, metallic. I also loved the artsy, watercolour effects, the organic shapes and the natural elements. So I tried to bring all these into my hand-made embellishments ...

Lots of diecuts here - fluffy felt clouds, flamingoes, feathers, flowers and foliage. The tags were made with offcuts of pp, then I used the scraps to cut words, leaves and bows. I added ribbon to some paperclips to echo the cute scarf ones in the original kit, and I fussy-cut some frames from the last scrap of an elderly paper I've been hoarding for years. Finally, I had a go at forging the acrylic words in two different ways ...

The "hello" is simply die cut from an old file divider using my trusty Cuttlebug, and the "smile" was cut once from clear acetate and again from paper, then I glued the layers together with my Zig glue pen. They look quite good IRL but hard to get a good photo of.

I had intended to make a mini kit to use for card-making, but ended up with quite a big collection of stuff. There's a good mixture of pp, with some plain cardstock and some watercolour paper to play with later. I added my new watercolour palette and a couple of stamp sets, and finally some bling, silver stars, cut-apart labels, wood veneers and silver puffy stickers. Here are a couple more pictures of the whole kit ...

So, all I have to do now is to use it all up :o)

There will be lots of inspiration over at CKC throughout the month - check it out and why not have a go yourself?!

Thanks for popping in today, see you again soon!

Love Annie xxx

Yay for coming back and yay for a fabulous January kit! I love where you took the inspiration and your kit is very much what I had in mind as an alternative to the festive feel of the original when I first picked it! Your forged words are super simple and great - the best type of forgery!

Great to have you back Annie!
Hi Annie, I'm going to have to take a closer look at this. It might be a way of using up some of the older stash that seems to have got forgotten and is using up valuable storage space. Happy creative week, Angela xXx

What a splendid idea. I love the kit you've created and also the idea of viewing things with fresh eyes. I'm finally able to get into my s/crap room. It was the dumping ground for all things over the Christmas period when we had house guests installed in my overflow room. Now to find Mr Mojo - s/hes missing in action right now.
