WOYWW #606 - bizarre bazaar beginnings

 Hello all you deskers,

Hope you're having a fabulous week and staying safe and well. Is it REALLY Wednesday again?!

Time to show you my desk and then pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground to hook up and have a nosey around some other crafty desks. Here's mine then ...

This is the beginnings of my latest nooknook project - it's going to be an Eastern Bazaar ... kind of. I was inspired by the lovely Shoshi's miniature carpet designs - I had thought I'd make some to go in my miniature rooms, but then I thought it would be fun to have a carpet shop and the idea just snowballed from there. I've never been to Morocco or Egypt or Turkey or anywhere like that where they have the kind of place I want to create, so it will probably be a bit far-fetched, but that's ok - it's my little world so I can make my Bazaar as bizarre as I like :o)

The base is made from chipboard, then I glued on a layer of tissue before adding acryic paint. Here's a closer look ...

The sections open out to facilitate lighting and to give me extra space for little shops full of exotic goodies. Eventually I'll make the ends look like book spines to sit on a shelf. I've made a pile of tiny tiles to decorate some of the walls - they were printed onto glossy paper, then cut out and stuck onto squares of card and sanded to finish the edges ...

To give you an idea of scale, the smaller ones are about 1cm. A labour of love, but nice to do whilst binge-watching Virgin River on Netflix :o)

That's it for me, see you over at Julia's - be there or be square!

Oh Annie, this is going to be GORGEOUS!! I adore what you have done so far, and the miniature tiles are perfect! I am very interested in Islamic geometric art and have a lot of information lined up for when I get time to start drawing some myself. I am honoured that my tiny carpet designs are going to feature in this absolutely stunning project and I can't wait to see how it progresses. If you want any more carpet designs I'll try and do some more for you!

Thank you for visiting, and I'm glad you like my rainbow jumper and how I altered it. I think it was Lynne of Lynnecrafts who pointed me to the cat stitch - it's a really fun one to do and I love embroidering the faces on afterwards too! The kitty throw is coming along quite nicely - still quite a few more squares to make and then I can really get going on the appliqué bits.

Happy belated WOYWW,

Annie, have you visited Susan Renshaw's blog yet this week? She's got a brilliant miniature room that she's made from a kit. I thought it was right up your street!

Oooohhhh, I love those mosaic 'tiles' - I might print me some to use as a border in my art journal, love the idea! I see a lot of miniatures on blogs lately, it's not my cup of tea to pick that sort of craft up but I do love the results, so cute! Sorry for being late with my visit this week (the deskers-list is long and I visit a few per day) Have a great weekend, stay healthy and safe! Love from the Netherlands, Marit #31

I’m sorry to be so late. Am very excited by this latest book nook. And fascinated with the way your mind went from making a miniature carpet to a whole bazaar, how exciting! The tiles are beautiful. We were in Granada, Spain and went to the Alhambra Palace and the tiled floors and walls just about had me swooning...worth looking at online if you need anymore inspiration, although I don’t think you need any! I can see you making lots of little clay pots for one of the shops next!

Also forgot to say....been in two carpet shops, both in Tunisia. Amazing experiences in both, thirty years apart. First one, they only let couples in and locked the door behind us. Scared me! abut they were perfectly nice, they just don’t get the ‘lbrowsing’ theory! Second one was with a group on an organised town visit. We did buy a rug in the end, and were shown the weaving room and allowed to talk to the weaving gals. They spoke mainly Tunis french and we were able to communicate (badly), but we left with the impression that they were comfortable and relatively well paid. Relative of course. It was fascinating, watching them and then being allowed to try to do some knotting. Almost impossible. The girls were doing it simultaneously with both hands at amazing speed.
