WOYWW #377

Hello Bloggers and Fellow Deskers,

My working hours have changed, so my Wednesdays are not what they used to be - but the lovely LLJ has very kindly offered to link up for me so I don't have to miss my weekly dose of snouting round other people's workdesks and still get to show you what I've been up to this week. If you would like to join us, please pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground and click on Mr Linky.

I've been crafting in the garden again today, making the most of the summer while I can - as I type this at 8.30 on Tuesday evening, darkness is already falling and there are tiny bats flitting about outside, where only a couple of hours ago I was playing with Paper Clay to make this little guy ...

No, it's not Davros - when he grows up, I think he wants to be a mediaeval King's Fool - but he may yet change his mind! On Sunday, I had the most amazing and inspiring day with the talented Tanya Goddard, who creates art dolls. Tanya comes from Russia, where there is a tradition for these wonderful, expressive character dolls. It was such a privilege to spend a day with Tanya, learning all her secrets and I feel SO inspired!! She gave me some Paper Clay to make my homework - brilliant stuff to use, which I believe you can get on Amazon.

At my next lesson, I will learn how to make the body and clothes - I love that Tanya uses recycled materials and things like toilet paper to make her beautiful sculptures, definitely a woman after my own heart!

So, I will checking in at Julia's when I get home from work this evening - see you there!

Thanks for popping in to visit me today :)

Well, your 'cup head' is fabulous and it sounds as if it was a real successful workshop you went on - and more to come. Sounds fun too. Will be looking forward to seeing your next instalment on Davros or whoever he turns out to be.

Wow, what a cutie! Very stylized and I can't even imagine how you did it! It looks like you've been doing this for decades, not like your first try! You have serious talent, Annie! Can't wait to see the next stages! Since LLJ won't be able to link you any more, I'd be happy to do it for you, just let me know! Have a great week! zsuzsa #21

Oh I am so Glad Jan is posting for you because I would have hated to MISS this! What a wonderful guy you are creating... I cannot wait for you to share the rest of him with all of us... Here in Canada it is again dark by 8:30pm....sigh. Sometime is feels like we wait SO LONG for summer to arrive and then it's over in a blink... I am evious of your access to such wonderful Russian talent especially as I have an un-opened package of paper clay sitting on my shelf... I guess it is time to go check out the Tanya Goddard link in your post and get inspired! Happy Belated WOYWW, Scrapbook Lynne #37

I wish I had a picture of a doll I made for my grandmother, which this little doll head reminds me of. I didn't craft the doll's head out of paper clay, but stitched it, like your trapunto into a stuffed leg of hosiery. And then attached it to a body. He had a little suit of velvet and a velvet hat with a feather. I do however have a picture on my blog of something my grandmother made from GI Joe dolls -- it's the Last Supper with Jesus and all his disciples. My uncle made the long table and grandma dressed all the dolls in long robes and put beards on them if the dolls didn't have any. Mom puts it up on top of her piano every year at Christmas.
