Amazon Art Journal

Hi Everyone,

Hope you're having a lovely weekend wherever you are in the world and managing to squeeze in some creative playtime :o)

You know when you get a tiny delivery from Amazon and it comes with shedloads of packaging? I hate that. Well, here's the story of how I turned this (this is really now it arrived) ...

... into this gorgeously colourful art journal ...

I was inspired by the wonderful Rae Missigman, who encouraged us to "Build something beautiful out of the ordinary" for week 26 of Wanderlust 2017. Rae started with large envelopes and plain paper, but I adapted the idea to use what I had available ...

The folded paper on top of the pile is that brown paper they crumple up around tiny items to protect them - I've carefully smoothed it out and refolded it and it makes a lovely crackly noise now!

I gessoed one of the cardboard folders on both sides, then left it to dry while I played with my Gelli Plate and produced a pile of prints on deli paper ...

... which I then tore into randomly-sized pieces ready to collage onto the front ...

... and the inside of the folder to create the cover for my art journal ...

... including the flaps on the inside left cover which I thought would be handy for storage of collage papers and so on. My brown paper pages were grouped into signatures which I just tied in with narrow ribbons, so they're good and secure but also lie nice and flat for working on ...

Lots of doodling with black and white Posca paint pens, and then I added a button and tie fastening to finish it off ...

Took me pretty much all day, but I really enjoyed myself, and it's very satisfying that it's all made out of recycled packaging, paint and glue :o)

Thanks very much for popping in today, see you again soon!

Awesome, Annie! Still don't know how you accomplished it, but very impressed by the outcome!

A whimsical, quirky look to your repurposed packaging. Amazing what one can do with a little inspiration from others on the road.

Eeek what a stunning idea... I have just got a jelli plate - now I just have to test drive it. Love all the papers and so cool that you smoothed out all the packaging. Go you :D
This is fantastic, Annie! I've watched the video, but the project seemed too big to tackle at the time. Now I feel super inspired to do something similar! Your prints look awesome too!
