WOYWW #597

 Hello Fellow Deskers,

It's the second Wednesday of the new lockdown, but it's not all bad, because we have our workdesks, we have each other, and it's also time to WOYWW!! Pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground if you would like to join in the fun and snooping :o)

My workspace has migrated to the dining table at the moment, where I've been working on a special project ...

A good friend of mine, Trina, suggested that I enter the Knitting and Stitching Show Self Portrait Competition, so I decided to give it a go. Deadline is 20th November, so I don't have time to dither and daly as I usually would, which was probably a good thing. Maybe some of my fellow Deskers are entering as well, wouldn't it be amazing to see some of us in the online gallery in stitches (!!)

The base was made with a collage of fabric scraps on to heavyweight paper to create the base shape and shading, now I'm in the process of adding detail with hand-stitching and BLIMEY!! are my fingers sore from pushing the needle through al the layers! Other than the initial sketched guidelines, I've used only fabric and thread. Here's a close-up ...

And here's the mess I left my proper workdesk in before I decided on a change of scene ...

You can see all the snippets of fabric, where I'd been freehand cutting to fit my face. I found that just a tiny dab of Pritt on each piece was enough to hold it in place until I anchored it with the stitching.

Well, that's more than enough rambling from me, see you at Julia's

OMG, that portrait is amazing!!! You so deserve to win, in fact you should be on Portrait Artist of the Year, it’s so good. I love the fact that you’ve just gone for it rather than deliberate too much. Genius!

That portrait is unbelievable, Annie - truly fantastic! I am sure you will do really well in the competition. I wouldn't like to push a needle through all those layers, though... Thank you for your visit and your lovely comments. It may have been you who put me onto Joe Brown's in the first place - someone mentioned it recently and I can't remember who, so I hopped over for a look and a lot of the stuff on there is a bit different, isn't it. I am very pleased with my new tunic. So glad you like tiny carpet #6 and I'm very pleased you would like to join in the giveaway!

Happy belated WOYWW,
