Bohemian Patchwork

Hi Everyone,

Can't believe that we're really over half way through the year already and this is Week 28 of Wanderlust 2017!! It's proving to be a great arty-farty adventure and I've been trying so many new things - it's been an amazing experience :o)

Last week, lovely Sandra Evertson showed us how she creates a beautiful Bohemian Patchwork wall hanging, using gorgeous vintage fabrics which she finds in thrift stores (charity shops here in the UK). She also demonstrated how to make a hand-painted and beaded pendant which can hang on the piece as a focal point or be taken off when you want to wear it.

Here's how mine turned out ...

Sandra's pieces were all hand-stitched onto her base, which looked beautiful, but I wanted to finish mine quickly today, so I used a glue gun to stick everything onto a piece of mount board from the stash I totted from a local framer.

There are lots of family treasures and keepsakes on here, so it's lovely to be able to showcase them like this. The peacock blue satin pieces were samples my Mum did on her new sewing machine years ago and I couldn't bear to get rid of them but I think they fit in perfectly with this project. The lace cloth and doiley were given to me by MIL and I've also used some twine from a roll we found in my FIL's shed. My son made the resin frame around the photo and the daisy chain is a memento of a happy day out. The gorgeous trims are from a shop on Walthamstow High Street - I've been hoarding them for ages. The pendant is one I've had for years, cheap and cheerful but I loved it in my hippy chick days!! :o)

This was a fabulous opportunity to use up some of my massive stash of pretties and it was really fun just piling them on there. I may do another one now, in vivid rainbow colours ...

Thanks for stopping by today, see you again soon!

A delightful pot pourri of special bits and bobs all playing happily together on this eclectic piece. I do enjoy exploring the world of art through your experiences and promise myself that the second half of the year is going to have more time to experiment!
How lovely that you have a personal connection to all those little bits and pieces! It makes it so much more meaningful! All those memories bound into one piece of art! It's beautiful - love that peacock blue and the other colours complementing it!
