WOYWW #386 - Resin Knick-Knacks and Sharp Pencils!

Hi Everyone,

We're just into Autumn here in Norfolk UK, and a very beautiful one it is too, hope you're having a good day wherever you are in the world. Today is when we link up over at Julia's Stamping Ground to join in with What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - it's great fun to have a nosey at creative spaces all over the world and anyone is welcome, so why not show us what's happening in yours? :o)

I don't get to play along too often these days, due to a change in working hours, but my lovely bloggy friend Zsuzsa over at Inky Dinky Doodle has kindly offered to link me up so I can go back later for a good old snout around and catch up with everyone. Thanks Zsuzsa!

It should be Show Us Yer Mess Wednesday for me again this week. Here's a picture taken yesterday afternoon ...


There has been some creative activity though. I've been making up mini kits for a Christmas workshop - hence the pile of paper on my chair. The collection of trinkets on the craft mat there was just waiting to be beautified. My son bought some really cheap silicone molds from China (the pink thing there is one of them) and made me a whole lot of cute little doodads ...


Here are a few I've painted with acrylic paint and finished with gilding wax ...


I treated myself to a wonderful book last week. Written by the very talented Alyona Nickelsen, it's full of clever and inspiring techniqes with coloured pencils ...


Then, because Alyona recommended an electric pencil sharpener, of course I had to get one of those as well. I found this one with a helical blade, which is supposed to be the best kind. It was so much fun to use, every single pencil in my craft room now has a perfect point!


Just need to make time to try them out now! Hopefully this post will publish itself as scheduled tomorrow morning while I'm at work and I will pop over to Julia's later to catch up with everyone - see you there :o)

Your resin makes look so pretty once you painted them up really shows the details in them. have fun with your new book and myself I like to use a hand held pencil sharper. Stops you from over sharpening a pencil at least that's what I like hugs Nikki? ?

Those little trinkets you altered look really beautiful.Who'd have thought simple objects could look so good.
Like the look of that coloured pencil book too.Must look it up.Hubby always looking for Xmas gifts for me- never knows what to get me.
Last year I got on-line courses which were great.

I love your quirky posts. So much fun to see what you are working on. The little resin doodads look amazing. Sigh.. another thing to get into ;) I have just got myself some crayons.. now I need a decent sharpener too. Bought myself a fabulous chalkboard colouring book too... works great with watercolour. So many crafts so little time. I really need to find a hobby for my hubby.

I thought I would have the honour to be the first commenter, but three people beat me to it LOL! Love those moulded elements, especially the feather! You've achieved some great effects with the gilding wax. The electric sharpener is a good idea - I always struggle with my hand sharpener - the lead in the softer pencils tends to break so easily. Will definitely look into those! Happy WOYWW! Got you in at #15. Mine will follow shortly!

I used to take my electric pencil sharpener in to school when I was a TA - the kids used to fight over who could use it!! It was a handy tool to get the little darlings to behave!! Love those trinkets, goodness, moulds have certainly improved over the last few years :-D

Great job with the resin creations. Hmmm ... I think I need some gilding wax now! And one of new tangled 'lectric pencil sharpeners. Your pencils look wonderful all lined up en pointe. Always fun to have a gander around your creative space TFS

Hi Annie, thank you for that info about mouds from China! I've been buying a lot of their cheap cutting dies, and hadn't thought to look for moulds! Thats next on my to-do list, lol. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz xxx #1

Your dodads look fantastic - especially once painted! I haven't got an electric sharpener but my daughter told me about a great little one that someone in her colouring group recommended and I love it! Can't beat a good sharpener!

Oh, I keep meaning to pick up some silicone molds like those myself. I love your trinkets and the coloring you did on them with the wax. They look awesome!! Oh, and freshly sharpened pencils are a thing of joy aren't they!? Have fun with all these goodies :)

Actually, I believe you are right about the electric pencil sharpener, it's one of the things you don't think about until you're using s semi blunt winder style for the millionth time, knowing how unsatisfactorily it will work! Must lodge this advice in my shopping mind! The trinkets things are turning out to be wonderful, amazing detail from the mouldy, expect you'll really enjoy using those. Hope the new work hours are working out for you.

Hello Annie. Oh the items you have made from those mold are stunning how to pick a favorite when they are all beautiful. That looks like a great book and years ago I went out and got an electric pencil sharpener as I was tired of the bluster at school time making everything ready for my children.
